Flexibility with classes is a point many students focus on when choosing to pursue a degree at Owens Community College. For Patricia Rickard, this year’s Business Technologies outstanding graduate, the flexibility allowed her to start her education in person and finish her degree online.

Rickard will graduate from Owens with not only an Associate of Applied Business – Business Technology degree but also with certificates in Business Management, Bookkeeping, QuickBooks and Payroll Accounting. “In high school, I pursued a business pathway. Throughout the years, I have used those office skills in one way or another,” she said.

When Rickard considers her time at Owens, she highlights the accessibility. “When I started at Owens, I lived in Findlay so I attended the Findlay-area Campus. When I went back, I attended online which was very convenient with my family’s busy schedule,” she noted. She also said the professors and staff were helpful and student-oriented. “I’ve had a very positive experience with Owens!”

The Owens Community College Foundation scholarship recipient was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, an honors society for two-year colleges.

After graduating, Rickard plans to pursue employment in the business sector or start a business of her own.
