When you ask students why they chose to attend Owens, there’s a good chance they will say the flexibility of class schedules was a big factor in their decision. Stephanie Logsdon, a mother of five, would agree as the flexibility helped as she raised her family. Logsdon, an education transfer pathway student, has been named an outstanding graduate and is the recipient of the Gerald Bazer Award for Outstanding Arts and Sciences Graduate.

Logsdon, a 2006 graduate of New Riegel High School, was inspired to pursue education by her children. “My experience of teaching multiple grade levels while homeschooling and the learning opportunities that life brings were influential,” said Logsdon. She is also actively involved in her community, church and at her children’s school. She volunteers for recess duty, participates in choir and as a lector at church, participates in the School Advisory Board and more. all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

Logsdon chose Owens because of its online course availability. “The setup of online classes at Owens has been superior,” Logsdon said. She was also the recipient of multiple scholarships including the James H. Baehren Endowed Scholarship and an Owens Foundation Scholarship.

She has one piece of advice for anyone considering Owens for their education. “Attend Owens and you are investing in yourself,” she said.

After graduation, Logsdon will attend Franklin University to pursue her bachelor’s degree in education.
