COVID-19 impacted students in many different ways. For TJ Tressler, it steered him to stay home and enroll at Owens Community College. This year, the Board of Trustees has recognized Tressler for his exemplary academic achievement. He credits his participation and connections made during his time at Owens for helping him succeed academically and professionally.

The Sylvania Northview graduate is studying Music Business Technology. He was originally admitted to a school in Michigan, but when the pandemic began, he decided to enroll at Owens. His father, Todd, had told him about Owens so he came to visit and knew it was where he belonged.

“Really apply yourself to what you’re doing. Trust the professors and the process. Try to do as much as you can and get involved with everything,” said Tressler. In his time at Owens, he participated in the Accent on the Arts series, which is a performance series where students contact and contract a band or ensemble to perform at Owens. Robert Ticherich, associate professor of music recording, said Tressler was integral to scheduling acts and creating commercials to advertise for the event.

After graduating in May 2022, he plans to move to California to work in the live sound industry.
