Fund of Excellence


The Academic Support Services Fund of Excellence benefits students by helping fund programs and initiatives designed to accelerate their learning progress, catch up with their peers, or generally succeed in their academic endeavors. At Owens, this includes TRIO Student Support Services, The Fast Track Program, The Academic Success Center, and The Center for Campus and Community Connections.

TRIO Student Support Services provides and coordinates a variety of educational support services for students who are first generation, low/limited-income and/or students with disabilities. The purpose of the program is to increase college retention, graduation and transfer rates to four-year institutions for eligible members. Some of the services this program provides include:

  • Individualized success coaching/advising.
  • College transfer assistance.
  • Academic, career, and personal development workshops
  • Financial literacy training and financial aid assistance.
  • Cultural activities.

The Fast Track Program is a new student program that provides students access to resources and support in an effort to make it easier for them to reach their goals and graduate as quickly as possible. Some of the services this program provides include:

  • Access to success coaches for study tips, academic help, assistance with strengthening life skills, supportive listening and encouragement.
  • Financial incentive for meeting the program requirements.
  • Access to activities, events and resources all tailored to help them maximize their success.

The Academic Success Center provides a variety of tutoring services and resources for students. Some of the services this office provides include:

  • Virtual tutoring.
  • Accounting, Math and Science tutoring.
  • Student to student support for connecting to academic and non-academic resources on and off campaign
  • Study skill support.
  • The Writing Center.

The Center for Campus and Community Connections is a walk-in office created to provide retention support through resource stability initiatives and community connections. This includes connecting students to campus and community resources, student mentors, and volunteer coordination. Some of the services this office provides include:

  • Serving as the point of contact for students needing services or experiencing hardship to identify specific needs.
  • Connecting students to peer Connection Mentors.
  • Sustaining and building the Owens Harvest Food Pantry, Career Closet and Community Garden.
