Student Support Services

Fund of Excellence

The Student Support Services Fund of Excellence benefits students by helping fund various services made available to assist them in being successful and accomplishing their academic goals. At Owens, this includes Advising, Career Services, Counseling, the Disability Resource Center, Student Financial Services, Student Life, the Testing Center, and Veterans Services.

Academic Advising engages, challenges, and supports a diverse student population to assist students in achieving their educational and career goals. Students are assigned an academic advisor based on their major and will work with that advisor during their pursuit of a degree or certificate.

Career and Transfer Services is committed to supporting our students and alumni as they explore careers and prepare for employment. Several services and online resources are provided to guide them throughout their career development such as:

  • Career/Major Exploration
  • Resume Building/Review
  • Cover Letters
  • Networking
  • Job Search Strategies
  • Interview Skills/Mock Interviews
  • Job Offer/Negotiation
  • Student Employment/Federal Work-Study
  • Transfer Planning

Counseling Services offers consultation, mental health assessment, counseling, crisis support, education, prevention, outreach, and linkage to community resources at no additional charge to students. Counseling Services provides assistance to students experiencing personal, educational, interpersonal/relationship, family, social, or psychological difficulties.

The Disability Resource Center supports students with disabilities by creating an accessible, inclusive and welcoming environment. A wide range of services are provided to students with disabilities to ensure equal access to college activities, courses (both online and in-person) and programs. The Disability Resource Center also provides support to faculty and staff to deliver accommodations.

Student Financial Services supports students by discussing payment options, providing information regarding the financial aid process, assisting with registration and providing support related to student accounts.

Student Life offers students the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of campus activities as well as student clubs and organizations. Getting involved at Owens is a great way for students to meet friends, find peers that share their interests, and develop as students. In addition, students gain experience through volunteer opportunities and pursue professional goals outside the classroom.

The Testing Center supports students by providing services such as placement testing, proficiency exams, ACT testing, certification testing, the College-Level Examination Program, HESI testing for nurses seeking entrance in to an Associate Degree Nursing program, ATI TEAS testing for students entering into health professions, WebCAPE Foreign Language Exam for Spanish and English as a Second Language, and test proctoring for makeup exams and students who have approved accommodations through the Disability Resource Center.
