Inspiration to get into a chosen field can come from anywhere in our lives. For Aaron Lentz, a recipient of the Barbara Rood Student Choice Award, he chose to enroll in the Registered Nursing program because of his wife, a graduate of Owens Community College’s Registered Nursing program.

Lentz’s wife has been a registered nurse for eight years and was his inspiration to get into the profession. He has been serving the community and helping people much of his adult life. He spent 16 years as a police officer and then decided to change his career but still make an impact in people’s lives.

The 1996 Lakota graduate said the Nursing Skills Lab at the Findlay-area Campus and the staff were vital to his success, saying “they were always there to listen when we needed someone and they truly cared about the success and mental well-being of our group.” Lentz credits his classmates, who pushed him academically and were there every step of the way with his success at Owens. “The people you have around you are just as important, if not more important, than those teaching the class,” he said.

Lentz has accepted a RN position in the ICU at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
