The inspiration to get into your chosen field could come at any stage of life. For Macie Zeller, a nursing student and Barbara Rood Student Choice Award recipient, that inspiration came from her childhood.

“I was called Miss Mother growing up because I always wanted to take care of my siblings and younger cousins,” said Zeller, a Bowsher High School graduate who added it was second nature for her to make sure everyone was OK in all situations.

When choosing where to study, Zeller said the flexible class scheduling was a big factor in coming to Owens Community College. Once here, she credits not only the staff, but her classmates for her success. “Classmates have greatly pushed me to keep going when things got tough and we were able to push through together.”

After graduation, Zeller has accepted a job in the Neurology Intensive Care Unit at Toledo Hospital to gain experience as a critical care nurse.
