Walking across the stage at college graduation is a one-time event for many people. For Tiffani Wilson, a Barbara Rood Award Recipient in Nursing, she will cross the Owens Community College stage at commencement for a second time.

The Start High School graduate has wanted to be a nurse since she was a little girl. “I love to take care of people and make sure they are healthy,” Wilson said.

She first graduated from Owens in 2015 from the Licensed Practical Nurse program. She said she chose Owens because she had family members who graduated from the College. “Owens has been a staple in the community as far back as I can remember,” she said. “I did not want a big college or campus, I wanted a smaller more intimate feeling and I got that with Owens.”

While in the LPN to RN program at Owens, Wilson was able to take online classes when possible, “Owens worked for me with my work schedule and my family schedule,” said Wilson. She credits not only her classmates, but the faculty as well for her successes.

Through her time at Owens, Wilson was involved in the Student Nurses’ Association and served as the president.

After graduation, Wilson will work at Mercy St. Anne’s Hospital and looks to move into travel nursing. She also plans to expand her CPR and First Aid Training service.
