Families can hand down many things from traditions to heirlooms and even passion for a career. Danielle Eiting, a Barbara Rood Award recipient, is following in her family’s footsteps and becoming a nurse.

Eiting, a Liberty-Benton graduate, started her career in the medical field as an emergency room secretary. “I realized I had a passion for helping others and wanting to make a difference for them,” she said. When looking at her career path, Eiting said the nurses in her family are some of the best role models and have shown her what it takes to be a great nurse. “I hope that in some way, shape or form, I can be as wonderful of nurse as them.”

The size of classes is what really drew Eiting to Owens Community College. She knew the smaller class sizes would give her the opportunity to work closely with her professors while in the program. “There are so many individuals within the program that took the time to go above and beyond for the students, including myself, to make sure we got the most out of each class,” she said.

After graduation, Eiting will begin her career as a registered nurse and will further her education and pursue her BSN.
