The Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery’s Mission

Owens Community College Center for Fine and Performing Arts/ Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery is committed to exhibiting diverse, vibrant visual arts and to embedding arts programming within the Owens Community College curriculum and the community at large. Founded in 2003 the Terhune Art Gallery has been proud to host exhibitions with local and regional artists as well as internationally recognized contemporary artists including Lorna Simpson, Judy Chicago, Donald Woodman, Mary Ellen Mark, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The gallery has also showcased the work of renowned local artists including Ken Thompson, Jack Schmidt, and Leslie Adams.

Main Gallery

The 1,300 square foot gallery is located in the lobby of the Center for Fine and Performing Arts at Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio. This space can exhibit two-dimensional, three-dimensional, or installation pieces. The walls to the right of the gallery can be opened up into the adjacent hallway and add an extra 45 running feet to the space.

Outside Wall Gallery

Located on the exterior wall of the Main Gallery, this space is a part of a hallway where many visitors pass by. This exhibition space can showcase two-dimensional works of art including paintings, photographs, and wall sculptures on its 45 running feet. The exhibitions can be curated to support the content of the exhibits in the Main Gallery or it can be independent.

Proposal Process

Interested parties must complete and submit the form below. The contact information must be one-hundred percent accurate and used regularly. The email address and phone number provided is how we will contact you regarding your submission. If any of the fields are not applicable then state N/A.

Images of artwork must be uploaded and submitted below as part of the application process. The image files should be in HIGH QUALITY JPEG format, images should be no smaller than 1000 pixels in any direction (about 13”) and be exactly 72dpi. The average file size should range from 700kb to 2mb but this is only approximate. Hi-Res, print-quality images will be requested for accepted works for promotional use. A minimum of 3 images and a maximum of 10 images can be submitted. If you are submitting a video, motion, or interactive work please upload this file below.

The Gallery Committee will review proposals and make the final decision of accepted exhibitions. Individual artists may be exhibited with other artists depending on media (2-D/3-D/Video), subject matter, and space limitations. Artworks are not required to be for sale in order to be included in our exhibitions. There is no fee for exhibiting in the Terhune Art Gallery and the gallery will not take any commission from the sale of artwork.

Not Required but desirable: Workshop or Artist lecture Proposal. Preference may be given to artists who can provide additional educational experience to Owens Students and Community Members.
