Special Meetings

The Board of Trustees of Owens Community College will hold a retreat on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, beginning at 8:15 a.m. in a hybrid format (Heritage Hall room 123; the Zoom “join” link is provided below). The purpose of the special meeting is a work session with no audience participation, for the President’s report, including the monitoring report on institutional leadership and communication; board education on institutional accreditation with a representative from the Higher Learning Commission and on government relations with a representative from the Montrose Group; and if time permits, an overview of the grant process. The retreat is anticipated to adjourn by noon.

A special meeting, as defined by Ohio’s Open Meeting Act (Ohio Revised Code 121.22), is any meeting other than a regular meeting and requires 24-hour advance notice.

Emergency Meetings

Convened when a situation requires immediate official action.

In accordance with Ohio’s Open Meeting Act and the practice of the Board Secretary, a public notice for a situation of an emergency meeting would be sent to the media outlets of Toledo Blade, Findlay Courier, Bowling Green Sentinel and to those persons or associations who have specifically requested such notice.

Requests to Address the Board of Trustees
To address the Board:  Any person, other than a member of the board or an officer of the college, who wishes to address the board at a regular meeting must request approval by five p.m., eight calendar days prior to the date of the regular meeting of the board.  The request must be made in writing to the board secretary and must state the purpose, the requestor’s name, email address and phone numbers.  The board will not consider certain requests at the board chair’s discretion, including but not limited to pending legal matters, personnel decisions or other confidential matters.  (Source:  Owens Community College Board of Trustees Bylaws, 3358:11-1-02.)
