Yes, students must be a Radiographer to take MIT 257, the clinical course. Only Radiographers are eligible to position mammographic examinations.
Do I need to take the MIT 257 clinical course to earn the Mammography certificate?
Students must complete the clinical component to earn the certificate. This can be achieved by taking MIT 257 or by completing the competencies at their place of employment. Students earning the competencies at their place of employment will need to apply to Prior Learning Assessment to earn credit for MIT 257. There is a fee for this application.
Can I become Mammography registered if I just pass the online courses?
No. The ARRT requires competencies to be earned along with the educational courses to take the Mammography registry examination. Once these are completed, students must pass the ARRT Mammography examination to be Mammography registered.
Do I need to attend any classes on the Owens Community College campus for the Mammography certificate?
MIT 256 is offered all online. MIT 257 requires students to attend an in person clinical rotation.
Do the online Mammography courses qualify for the ARRT educational requirements?
Yes. MIT 256 qualifies for the educational portion required by the ARRT. To qualify for the clinical competencies, this must be recorded by the clinical site as completed and documentation provided to the MIT 257 course instructor. The program director maintains the approval of the Mammography courses offered at Owens Community College with the ARRT.
