Do you love to make someone feel good about their appearance? Do you like to work with people? Do you have an interest in teeth?
If you have an interest in science, working with your hands, problem-solving, and a desire for continual learning, then dental assisting may be a great certificate for you.
The Dental Assisting Certificate here at Owens Community College will offer all of this, and a lot more.
The Dental Assisting faculty members are prepared to help you begin a rewarding career as a Dental Assistant.
In Dental Assisting at Owens, you will spend your time reviewing medical histories, dental charting, chairside assisting, taking impressions, sterilization procedures, taking x-rays, and working as a team.
You will be doing a practicum in an office for eight weeks to further your skills before you take the Commission on Dental Assisting Board exam.
This program provides a strong foundation for any student who will willing to obtain an Associate’s degree or to further their education with Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA), coronal polishing, or sealant placement courses.
About the Program
You can get the Dental Assisting Certificate done quickly in one year!
You will learn about anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, radiology, chairside assisting, dental specialties, and office management as part of the curriculum.
Your courses along with 336 hours of hands-on lab and at least 144 hours of working through the practicum will prepare you to be a professional dental assistant. There are two cohorts available, a fall evening program and a spring daytime program.
