Diagnostic Medical Sonography


The primary goal of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is to prepare competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains for the following concentrations it offers:

Abdominal Sonography – Extended
Obstetrics and Gynecology Sonography

Graduates of the Owens Community College Program will be able to perform, at minimum, the following goals and objectives:

GOAL 1

Students will be knowledgeable in their field.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will demonstrate critical thinking skills regarding sonographic procedures in order to provide optimal results.

Students will obtain a thorough patient history to facilitate in optimal results.

GOAL 2

Students will be clinically proficient.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will perform and analyze sonographic procedures appropriately and accurately for interpretation.

Students will perform diagnostic examinations in appropriate time frames.

GOAL 3

Students will model professionalism.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will demonstrate effective communication skills.

Students will utilize patient care and comfort skills to provide compassionate care.

Students will function effectively as a motivated member of the healthcare team.
