I love working with Honors students whether as one of the HON101 and HON201 instructors, as the Honors Club Advisor, or as the Program Director. Each role allows me to work closely with scholars and I love how great they are at rising to meet their challenges. That’s the best part of my job: watching nervous new scholars evolve into much more confident and resilient graduates. We get to witness their origin stories and that is so exciting!

Greetings, Honors Scholars!
I am very excited and enthusiastic to be an Honors Advisor for the School of Liberal Arts. I mentored several students in Honors Option in ENG 112 and other courses before. It was great mentoring my Honors students with class projects that are captivating, innovative, and scholarly. Colleges and universities provide potential grant opportunities to Honors students. Additionally, Honors graduates can receive favorable attention from future employers. The Honors Program is such an excellent educational opportunity for students. I would like to conclude my short note here with a quotation for Nelson Mandela that says, “There is no passion to be found in playing small, in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”

I am excited, and honored myself, to be the Honors Mentor for the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). I love working with students as they research, experiment, and discover new things about the world around us, and about themselves. The best thing about Honors Option Contracts is that students gain confidence in their ability to organize and complete a project that sometimes seems daunting at first. This skill will take them great places in life, and I am privileged to be a part of their journey!

I am delighted for the opportunity to be the School of Business, Hospitality Management and Public Safety Honors Program mentor. I have worked with many students on their Honors Options Contracts in my classes. I truly enjoy collaborating with our scholars as they push themselves to go above and beyond the bar. As a student, our Honors Scholars participate in scholarly activities as well as school and community outreach. Each of these opportunities results in personal growth that will benefit them as they pursue academics and careers beyond Owens. As a mentor, I am grateful to be a part of their amazing journey.

I was, initially, reluctant to serve as an Honors Program Mentor when first asked because I didn’t know enough about the Honors Program. I am so glad that I accepted! I have so enjoyed working with students outside (and within) my discipline area, encouraging students to become involved in the Honors Program, learning from the other mentors and getting involved in activities I would not have had I not been an Honors Mentor. Whether it be academic, civic or community-based, I hope to help each Scholar I work with get the most out of being an Honors Scholar at Owens.
