Can I change my preferred name back to my legal name?
Yes, you can change your preferred name back to your legal name.
To do so:
- Log into Ozone.
- Click on Workday.
- In the search bar, type Change My Preferred Name.
- Click on the Change My Preferred Name Task in the search results.
- Check the Use Legal Name As Preferred Name checkbox.
- Click Submit.
NOTE: By doing this, your username and email will also change back. All old email addresses will continue to exist as aliases, and will route to the email address containing your legal name.
Who do I contact if I am unable to login after changing my preferred name?

What happens to my old email if I change my preferred name?
The old email address will be converted to an alias. That alias will route automatically to the new email address created through the preferred name process.
What is a preferred first name?
A preferred first name is a name that you have chosen to use rather than your legal name.
Who do I contact with questions about my preferred name?
When will instructors be notified of my preferred name?
Once your preferred first name is available, an email will be sent to your instructors informing them of your preferred first name. The email will only be sent if you are currently registered for a class and the class has already started. If the class has not started, your preferred first name will appear on the class roster.
What if I changed my legal name?
If you have changed your legal name, you will need to complete the Name Change form (found on Personal Information card) and provide documentation. Your preferred first name will not change unless requested.
Do I have to use a preferred first name?
No. Use of a preferred first name is optional.
Where will the legal name be used?
The legal name will be used on all means of identification from the College on the following:
- Application
- Financial Aid
- Diplomas
- Transcripts
- National Student Clearinghouse
- Official correspondence
What is a legal name?
A legal first name is the name that appears on your birth certificate, driver’s license, passport, or Social Security card.
Can I request any preferred first name that I want?
You may designate a preferred first name with which they identify and prefer to be called. Owens Community College reserves the right to deny a request that contains inappropriate or offensive language.
How do I add a preferred First name?
NOTE: Be aware that by changing your preferred First name, your username will change.
If a preferred first name was not included on the original application:
- Log into Ozone.
- Click on Workday.
- Click on your Profile icon in the upper right corner of the page.
- Click View Profile.
- Click the Personal link on the blue menu to the left.
- Select the Names tab at the top of the page.
- Click the Edit button for the Preferred Name.
- If checked, uncheck the Use Legal Name As Preferred Name check box.
- Enter the required information.
- Click Submit.
You will receive an email stating that your request will be updated within 5 business days.
Owens Community College reserves the right to deny a request that contains inappropriate or offensive language.
Where will the preferred first name be used?
The preferred name will be used on:
- Your username
- Email address
- Workday
- Blackboard
- Other college software applications
