First-Generation College Student:
A college student whose parents/guardians do not have a degree from a four-year college or university.
TRIO Programs leads the efforts to celebrate first-generation college students here at Owens.
First-Generation College Student Day is celebrated nationally on November 8.
November 8 was chosen to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965. The HEA is key legislation that led to the creation of TRIO programs.
TRIO programs across the country look to encourage college campuses and communities to better understand the systematic barriers plaguing higher education and the support necessary for this resilient population.
Because of this, we will host our annual celebration on November 8, 2023. This is a campus-wide celebration (day of events) for Owens Community College.
