A First Generation College Student is a student whose parents/guardians do not have a degree from a 4-year college or university.

Owens Community College will host a week-long celebration for Owens Community College First Generation College Students. This collaborative effort will provide educational, informational, and empowerment events or workshops.
First Generation College Student Day is celebrated nationally on November 8. November 8th was chosen to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965. HEA was intended to help level a playing field that for too long had been weighed against Americans from minority and low-income backgrounds.
