2020 The First-Gen Takeover

The First-Gen Student Celebration

Owens Community College hosted a week-long celebration for Owens Community College First Generation College Students on November 9-13, 2020. This collaborative effort provided educational, informational, and empowerment events and workshops.

First Generation College Student Day is celebrated nationally on November 8. The date of November 8 was chosen to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965.  The HEA is key legislation that lead to the creation of college access programs like TRIO.
